Rhythm Exercises

Updated: Feb 14

These are rhythm exercises based on the Kodaly method and are designed for beginners.

Click on the topics to go to the YouTube tutorials, where I demonstrate how to use them.

How to use these exercises?

1) Watch the videos.

2) Download the free PDFs.

3) Try to count the rhythms yourself, ideally with a metronome.

4) Start at a slower tempo, like 100 bpm, and slowly work your way up as you get comfortable with the counting.

5) Apply these rhythms in the pieces that you learn.

Part 1 deals with whole half and quarter notes (semibreves, minims, crotchets)

Part 2 deals with eighth notes, syncopation, dotted quarter notes (dotted crotchets)

Part 3 deals with sixteenth notes (semiquavers) and triplets.

Need to adjust beats and maintain perfect timing for your music practice or performance? An online metronome is an excellent, readily available solution. These tools are designed to provide a steady, reliable click at whatever tempo you require. This is crucial not just for solo practice but also for ensemble rehearsals to ensure everyone is locked into the same pulse. The simplicity and accessibility of online metronomes make them a go-to for musicians who need a quick and accurate timing reference without any fuss.
